Cuban and US officials meet in Havana for consular services

HAVANA – Representatives of Cuba and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have met in Havana to discuss expanding consular and visa services on the island.

Wednesday’s meeting is the latest in a series of friendly talks between the two governments, which share a historically frigid relationship.

Cuba issued a brief statement confirming that the meeting took place.

The US delegation included Rena Bitter, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, and Ur Mendoza Jaddou, Director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service.

The US embassy closed in 2017 after a series of health incidents. While a full reopening has yet to be announced, US officials have said visa processing will resume in January.
