Manchester United face competition from Crystal Palace and AS Monaco for exciting Derby County contender Malcolm Ebiowei this summer.

The 18-year-old is expected to leave the Rams during the transfer window, having made his league debut last season when the club were doomed to avoid relegation following a 21-point deduction.

The teenager made 16 league appearances, 11 of them in the starting XI, and scored in a win at Blackpool in April.

Ebiowei had spent time with Arsenal and Rangers without making the cut but his breakthrough under Wayne Rooney at Pride Park has seen him attract the attention of bigger clubs.

transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United and Crystal Palace are leading the race for his signature, with French club AS Monaco also keen but the youngster prefers to join a Premier League team.

Newcastle and Tottenham have also been linked with the striker, leaving him with plenty of options as he is sure to leave Derby in the summer.

After the 18-year-old impressed in March’s 1-1 draw with Coventry, Rooney was full of praise for a player he believed had an extremely bright future.

“I thought he was excellent throughout the game, the best player on the pitch,” said the Derby coach. “It was one of the best performances I’ve seen from a young player in a long time, consistently for 90 minutes.

“He deserved this because he worked extremely hard. His attitude is incredible, he wants to learn and he’s an exciting young player.

“First of all, his attitude is very good. He has tremendous skill, he’s brave, he takes the ball, he’s not afraid to confront players, to be tackled, to make mistakes. So he has a really bright future.”
