Elizabeth Houston from Washington, D.C. has come up with a way to honor her grandchildren and at the same time troll conservatives. Now, the hashtag she started, #CrunchyWhitePimp4Ever, has more than 2.5 million views on TikTok.
Under her @bookersquared username, Houston paired a TikTok of Ben Shapiro squirming and snarling, “Let’s go Brandon,” The inner joke of the right has become the rallying cry.
She explains that there is only one “Brandon” that she can think of when she hears the hymn — her late grandson Brandon Baker.
“Brandon is really, really funny, goofy and a lot like the class clown,” Houston told the Daily Dot. “Everybody likes him… he makes friends all the time.”
Brandon Baker died in 2019 at the age of 22 and was a popular figure in the Memphis music scene known by his stage name “Crunchy White Pimp”. The name pays homage to the Memphis icon and member of the Three 6 Mafia, Crunchy Black.
So @bookersquared had an idea. In honor of her grandson and trolling conservatives back, she asked people to respond to “Let’s Go Brandon” posts online with #CrunchyWhitePimp4Ever.
Houston says that Baker loves the idea of using his name to mess with conservatives.
“He’s going to think this is hilarious,” Houston said. “It was a Brandon joke.”
TikTok exploded with enthusiasm for this idea. The original video now has more than 800,000 views.
@grogusimp said, “I immediately ran to his site to start supporting this trend. Sending love to you and your family”
@mrsbutterfield added, “I totally jumped on this. Twitter is about to get crisper and whiter. ”
Houston shared that she’s been sent posts from Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, where people are working to help the trend catch fire. However, the best response was from her family.
“My brother-in-law and my sister are absolutely overjoyed by this, because I don’t even know how they deal with the loss of a child,” Houston said. “It had to be the worst pain imaginable. And when my sister gets up to go to work, and see how the video goes… and the different things people are tagging #CrunchyWhitePimp4eva. Houston said.
Within a few days, people were asking for goods to mock the conservatives’ IRL. Houston designed the #CrunchyWhitePimp shirts and says 100% of the proceeds from the shirts go to Baker’s 3-year-old son, Carson.
Houston says she has no expectations for how the Crunchy White Pimp will go viral.
As far as what she hopes Ben Shaprio will think?
“I don’t care what Ben Shapiro thinks,” Houston said. “I don’t think about him very much.”
