Croydon: Man charged with the murder of his 89-year-old grandmother

A 31-year-old man has been accused of murdering his grandmother in her own home.
Verushan Manoharan is accused of stabbing 89-year-old Sakunthala Francis.
Police and paramedics rushed to her home in Thornton Heath, south London, around 9.20pm on Tuesday.
Paramedics tried to save the pensioner, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Manoharan was arrested a short time later at another address in Croydon, not far from the crime scene.
He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody to appear for a bail hearing at the Old Bailey on Monday.
Manoharan is also scheduled to appear in the same court on July 21.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.
“At this stage, no one else is wanted in connection with the death. The deceased and the accused are grandmother and grandson.”
