Crews respond to massive water main burst in Boston’s South End – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — An overnight water main burst left part of the South End submerged and caused the sidewalk on Tremont Street to buckle Monday morning, leaving at least one vehicle stuck in the collapsed asphalt.

The teams from the Boston Water and Sewer Commission and Eversource spent the early morning hours navigating the roadway near the junction with the Mass. avenue to work.

The break was believed to have started sometime around 3:30 a.m

At its peak, the water could be seen rising over the sidewalks in some areas before dissipating before 4:30 a.m

Boston police officers have been diverting traffic in the area all morning. No timeline has been released as to when the affected roads will fully reopen.

Monday morning’s water main disruption comes days after crews spent the weekend fixing another disruption of similar magnitude by Boston Common.
