SWAMPSCOTT, MASS. (WHDH) – A Swampscott man suffered a stab wound in his leg after being bitten by a coyote near his car.
Swampscott Police said the man was outside Paradise Road Santander Bank around 6am, on the phone and ignoring his surroundings. While he was on the phone, a coyote approached him from behind and bit his leg. The man then grabbed a wooden pole and chased the coyote into the woods. He told police the coyote was young and healthy.
Although the man suffered a stab wound, he refused medical attention at the scene and said he would take himself to the emergency room. He is likely to be proactively treated for rabies as it is not known if this coyote has the disease.
An animal welfare officer is actively searching for the coyote.
