Coventry: Man jailed after horrific ax attack on barbers

A man who attacked a woman with an ax in a hair salon has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.
Bogdan Serban, 42, stormed into the Coventry salon on June 3 last year.
His horrific attack left the woman with injuries to her face and both arms, and a broken eye socket.
Serban also used a knife in the targeted attack.
The 42-year-old was sentenced by Coventry Crown Court on January 6 after being found guilty by a jury of the attempted murder of the woman.
Officers had tried to show him the injuries to the woman he attacked, but he refused to look, saying he didn’t remember hitting her with the axe.
When asked about the knife in a police interview, Serban claimed it was used to “peel apples”.
As for the ax, he said he bought it three or four days ago and hadn’t used it before.
DC Sunita Sharma, of the Complex Investigations Team in Coventry, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack and we welcome this conviction.
“The attack caused life-changing injuries and we hope the victim and her family will find comfort in knowing that justice has been served.”
