Couple divided after refusing to move mid-flight from seats with extra legroom for mother and baby

A COUPLE was stunned when a mother and baby asked them to move from their seats for their husband – only for her to get angry when they said no.

The couple were en route from Europe to Asia on a 10-hour flight, booked in legroom seats.

They had booked two front-row aisle seats, which are often used by parents as they are big enough for cradles, but said they would switch to the middle seat if it was empty.

He asked on Reddit if he was wrong not to move for the mother and baby, who wanted to sit next to her husband.

The husband wrote, “This woman asked me before I even had a chance to put my bag in the overhead compartment, ‘Can I be really cheeky and ask you to switch places with my husband?’

“She then pointed to her husband, who was seated in the second row on the left side pillar of the plane (only the first row has extra leg room and requires an additional payment to book the seat).

“She then told me that her husband needs to be next to her to help with the baby.

“My wife was silent while I politely but firmly told her that unfortunately I wouldn’t switch there as his seat is in the second row as I had paid extra for the extra legroom seat.

“She then claimed that she and her husband also paid, but they placed him in the second row, which seemed very suspicious.”

He said the flight attendant then asked them to move, only for him to say he paid for those seats, which “made things pretty awkward.”

He continued: “[The mum] then they threw daggers at me for some time. The baby also started crying after a while.

“Luckily the steward came back and told me there were 2 seats available in one of the other front rows and offered to move us.

“We ended up moving there but could overhear this lady making lively comments about us from behind her husband for some time.”

The man said he told his in-laws what happened and said they should have moved to help her with her baby.

Some people said the mother was “not wrong” for asking and another said the mother needed the front seats because the bassinet hooked onto the front wall.

However, most people said the couple would be moving now.

One person said: “I wouldn’t have moved either. My husband and I book and pay extra to sit together. Other people’s seating problems are not my problem.”

Another person agreed: “You paid for more legroom and this seat. You were under no obligation to switch. If she wanted to sit with her husband, she should have booked seats next to each other.”

A third added: “Having a child does not grant her any special privileges entitling her to push you from the seat you paid for.”

The internet was divided after a woman refused to give up an empty row of seats on a plane to let a group of friends sit together.

And one passenger was shocked after being told by a mother not to eat snacks near her child during the flight.
