Former Coronation Street star Melissa Johns has spoken out about the ordeal she experienced when her phone was hacked.
In 2018, Melissa’s iCloud was hacked, resulting in explicit photos of her being posted online.
Now the actress has created a one-woman show that champions female sexuality and explores sex and disability.
She originally pitched the idea to the Lowry Theater in 2019, but like many other events, it was delayed due to coronavirus.
“For me, the worst part was being seen with no clothes on and that’s what happened,” Melissa told Manchester Evening News while reflecting on her hacking ordeal.
“If this happens to anyone else, I want them to be angry that it happened, but I don’t want them to feel ashamed of their bodies. The last thing I want is for them to be embarrassed.”
“I had two choices. It was either to hide and pretend it didn’t happen or to be a catalyst to talk about sl*t-shaming and body-shaming.
Melissa, who played Kate Connor’s ex-girlfriend Imogen Pascoe on the ITV soap, also created a BBC Radio 4 drama called In My Own Skin in 2018, which highlighted her experience of hacking phones.
Melissa’s show Snatched is coming to Salford on May 13th and 14th before heading to the Soho Theater in London.
