Conspiracy theorists claim that Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial documents are ‘sealed’

British social media site Ghislaine Maxwell faces decades in prison after being convicted on Wednesday of grooming underage girls for deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and accomplices of abuse. .

However, despite the verdict, whereby Maxwell was found guilty of five of the six crimes against her, conspiracy theorists immediately began spreading claims that the case was of a nefarious nature.

Jack Posobiec, a prominent far-right conspiracy theorist, responded to the ruling by alleging that all information regarding the sex-trafficking case would be kept secret from the public.

“Ghislaine Maxwell has been found guilty,” he tweeted. “All details of Epstein’s Network have been ordered sealed.”

The tweet quickly went viral, garnering thousands of shares from Posobiec’s more than 1.5 million Twitter followers.

As usual, Posobiec did not provide any evidence to substantiate the claim. That hasn’t stopped other far-right figures from sharing the tweet in an unconventional way.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also amplified the allegation in a tweet in which she criticized the government committee currently investigating the January 6 Capitol riots.

“Jeffrey Epstein’s entire network should be made public and his assets should go to his victims,” she tweeted. “If the fake J6 committee can subpoena innocent people’s cell phone data and bank records, then Jeffrey Epstein’s entire network should be made public.”

Avi Yemini, a reporter for the conspiracy website Rebel News, where Posobiec used to work, is also one of the prominent figures to repeat the accusations.

“Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty but the judge ordered all details on Epstein’s Network sealed. In short: It’s worse than all the ‘conspiracy theories’, he said.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Yemini to ask if he has a source for the claim or is merely repeating Posobiec but has not received a reply at press time.

Candidates for public office also tweeted the statement indiscriminately.

Posobiec also commended himself in a separate tweet for predicting that a cover-up following Maxwell’s ruling would conceal details of Epstein’s network.

“My appeal from the beginning is that they want Maxwell locked up, everyone gagged and everything sealed, and never talking about the Epstein Network again,” he tweeted.

But Posobiec’s vague claim that all the details surrounding the case have been sealed are untrue. While certain aspects will remain private when minors are involved, other information has long been widely available.

Speaking to the Daily Dot, Adam Klasfeld, the managing editor of Law & Crime, called Posobiec’s tweet “fake, untrue and confusing.”

Klasfeld, who has been closely following Maxwell’s trial, notes that information regarding the case has been made public.

“I’m not sure what that even means, but as far as I can understand the claim, it’s easily refuted; Pretty much everything about Epstein’s associates has been made public,” he said.

In fact, Klasfeld pointed to News that was also broken on Wednesday in relation to a federal judge who “ordered the cancellation of the 2009 settlement that Prince Andrew has claimed would prevent him from a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a 17-year-old girl.”

Prince Andrew, a senior member of the British royal family, is a longtime associate of Epstein but has repeatedly denied sexually abusing underage girls.

Documents relating to Epstein and Maxwell have gone unsealed several times in the past. In just one case, a federal judge returned in July 2020 unsealed hundreds of pages of transcripts and other documents related to a defamation lawsuit settled against Maxwell.

It is still unclear where Posobiec’s claim originated.
