Clerk fires shots and hits woman in South St. Louis store

ST. LOUIS — A man is behind bars after shooting at his workplace and shooting dead a woman at a supermarket in South St. Louis on Wednesday night.

The shooting took place just after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser’s Grand Mart on the 5000 block of South Grand Boulevard in the Dutchtown neighborhood.

Investigators say the suspect, a 32-year-old man who works at the store, pulled his firearm from under the register and shot inside. A 54-year-old woman shopping at the store was shot. She was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating what may have led to the suspect firing inside the company. No other injuries were reported from the shooting.
