Cleaning fanatic reveals why washing powder should ALWAYS be put in the drum and never in the drawer

IF you’ve always put your washing powder in your washing machine drawer, you’re about to be blown away.
A cleaning fanatic named Clean with Bek on TikTok explained why you should always put it straight into the drum of your front loader instead.

The 25-year-old UK resident said in the caption to her video: “Shocked at how many people didn’t know.”
Demonstrating the “correct” method, she claims that putting the powder in the drawer will clog your machine and could seriously damage it over time.
Instead, she insists that adding detergent directly to the drum with your clothes will give you a nice sudsy wash.
She also claims that it “smells so much stronger” and leaves your clothes feeling and smelling fresher for longer.

We’ve done a little digging ourselves and it seems like there’s quite a debate going on on the subject.
It’s true that some detergent powders can clog and get stuck in the drawer, which is why it’s best to clean them often rather than avoid them altogether.
The drawer is actually designed for both powder and liquid detergents, so you shouldn’t have a problem using them all.
According to the White Goods Help website, pouring the powder into the tumbler is a good fix if it’s not properly dissolving in the drawer.
However, the website warned against overloading your machine, saying: “This is because detergent gets trapped in the wash and cannot be dispensed properly.”
Adding, “Not only can this prevent proper washing, but it also creates a potential safety issue.”

Additionally, laundry brand Persil states on its website that detergent powder can be applied to the drum as long as it’s in a “mesh bag” that “helps it dissolve faster.”
You can pick up bags for this purpose in some supermarkets in the laundry room, which can be put in the machine before your clothes.
But it’s worth nothing that no two laundry detergents are alike.
For this reason, it’s best to check the instructions on your detergent first to make sure it can be used in this way.
