Despite his interest, Christopher Nkunku should remain at RB Leipzig and sign a new contract Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has emerged as one of Europe’s best attackers after scoring 20 goals in 34 Bundesliga games last season.
His contract runs until 2024 and is reportedly being pursued alongside the Red Devils by PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
However, according to the German newspaper Leipziger VolkszeitungNkunku is set to pen a new deal in Leipzig soon, ending speculation about his future this summer.
It is also said that his contract extension includes a salary increase and a €60m release clause.
Nkunku’s decision to remain in Germany for at least one more season will deal a major blow to United as they seek new strikers.
The Manchester giants have already been hit back after surfacing this week Liverpool had moved to pole position to sign another target in Benfica’s Darwin Nunez.
New manager Erik ten Hag is looking to step up his attack ahead of next season after United finished sixth in the Premier League last season and went five years without a trophy.
Meanwhile, the departures of Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani have left gaps in the Dutchman’s squad.
It is believed Nkunku was recommended to the club by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who thought highly of the striker and was shocked to learn he was not on the scouting department’s radar.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have also been linked with a move for the versatile striker and had eyed him as a potential alternative to Raheem Sterling as Thomas Tuchel looks to expand his multiple options.
Speaking to Telefoot, Nkunku was flattered by the interest shown by elite European clubs.
He said: “It’s no secret. There are clubs that are interested in me. Yes, it’s flattering, but it’s also flattering that a club like Leipzig is doing everything to keep me.
“I have to think carefully and make a decision. The World Cup is just around the corner and that is another factor to consider.”
