The holiest time of faith is now in progress.
For believers – like these at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan – Ash Wednesday literally marks the beginning of Christianity’s holiest season.
It falls on the seventh Wednesday before Easter and marks the start of Lent.
Followers – including Catholics, Anglicans, Episcopalians and Lutherans – rubbed ash on their foreheads as an outward sign of their penance.
This year, Western Christians celebrate Easter on April 17th. Eastern Orthodox believers do so a week later, on April 24.
