Children, driver hospitalized after bus collision, long traffic delays

Seven children were hospitalized after two buses collided in the Blue Mountains on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to Warrimoo around 4.15pm after a bus carrying 15 passengers reportedly hit another bus carrying 10 passengers on the Great Western Highway.

Two children were taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital with minor injuries. Another five children were taken to Nepean Hospital for assessment of minor injuries.

A male driver was also taken to Nepean Hospital with a shoulder injury.

The Great Western Highway was originally closed in both directions but has since reopened westbound. All eastbound lanes will remain closed, causing significant delays in the area.

In a statement released just before 6 p.m. Friday, the Transport Management Center said emergency services and traffic personnel were still at the scene.

“Motorists who need to travel may consider using Hawkesbury Road and Springwood Road via Yarramundi and Agnes Banks,” the statement said.

NSW Police said investigators are looking into how the accident happened.
