Previously on Chicago PD Season 9 Episode 9, Det. Will Halstead is forced to choose his freedom and Det. Hailey Upton’s Freedom for Sgt. By Hank Voight. Federal Agent North wanted Voight for the murder and cover-up of Roy Walton but Halstead threw him a curved orb and blackened him.
Warning… Vandals below!
Above Chicago PD Season 9 Episode 10, Makayla Ward Burgess is Burgess’s adopted daughter. During the past season, she witnessed her mother being brutally murdered by her father. However, Ruzek is also her legal guardian. Det. Ruzek picked up Makayla from school and he was stopped because he didn’t Authorised to pick her up. Det. Burgess came and authorized it… she forgot to add him to the list.
Then Ruzek gets a call from Voight about a missing child. They talk to the mother, Simone, and she is deeply saddened by the disappearance of her daughter, Brianna.
At the meeting, the film crew noticed Halstead and Upton get married. Brief congratulations and they are back to work. They found footage of Brianna appearing scared, but the angle was limited. They started with the neighbors and the sex offenders in the area. A neighbor claimed that the parents often fought over the child.
When the father got home, he was torn about the news. Disappointed with the way Simone raised their children. The team then attacked a man they had previously interviewed, Charles Kalzenski, and broke into his home. House search found a man paint a portrait of Brianna.
The team hit Kalzenski’s possible location. Searching a warehouse leads them to the man and they arrest him. During questioning, Kalzenski insisted he did not take Brianna and did not know her whereabouts.
Burgess avoided Ruzek’s questions about not adding him to Makayla’s school authorization list. She tried to turn around and he faced her. She felt they needed more boundaries and he wanted to be in her life… not just some guy sleeping in her chair.
Ruzek personally took over the case and was charged with questioning Kalzenski. He has impressed this man with his past pedophilia cases. Kalzenski had tears in her eyes and seemed to want to tell Ruzek something.
Suddenly, Atwater interrupted to show him the video of Brianna was kidnapped by another man in a hood. She wrestled with him, pulled away, and accidentally threw herself out as she ran into a brick wall. The man put her in a white car and drove away.
Ruzek recalls a white car Kalzenski mentioned and turns around to ask him about it and this man exclaims and says he won’t tell him anything!
Hit the house
Ruzek personally escorted Kalzenski and Brianna’s father plastered the house with pedophile posters. He broke in and ransacked the place. The police arrested the man.
Ruzek talked to him about Makayla as a mechanism to contact him and make him more open. Kalzenski didn’t see the driver but noticed a decal. Before leaving, Ruzek gives him a warning of the hell he will pay if he harms a child again.
That advice led to another neighbor they interviewed, Joespeh Defranco, a tip about parents arguing. When they broke into his house, he tried to take off with a car but crashed. When he tried to run, was immediately knocked down!
Unwanted family relationship
The man was almost catatonic when they interrogated him. Before the kidnapping, he bought children’s furniture since he lost his own daughter, he tried to make her his own. They attacked a warehouse where he was holding her and recovered the girl!
After that, Ruzek and Burgess finally talked about Makayla. He felt like he was on standby but wanted the security of knowing he might be in her life in the future. They came to an agreement about the child. Ruzek talked to Makayla about him moving in permanently and she’s happy about it.
She mentioned a man who approached her at school and talk to her. They went to the school to see the security footage and track him down. Turned out he is related to Makayla and filed a petition asking for her full custody…
