Cheltenham: Man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences

A 29-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.
Gloucestershire Police confirmed the news tonight.
The arrest is linked to an incident that took place outside a leisure center on Tommy Taylors Lane in Cheltenham around 9.15pm on Thursday.
A woman was stabbed and suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, where her condition remains stable.
Police say the man was arrested on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating terrorism in violation of Section 41 of the Terrorism Act (2000) and on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act (2006). .
Deputy Chief Constable Richard Ocone of Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “I would like to reassure those living locally or visiting the county that we believe this was an isolated case and we are not aware of any major threat to the public.
“We work closely with our counterterrorism partners.
“We recognize that an incident of this nature can be of concern and we encourage people to contact us on 101 with additional information about the incident.”
