Wesley Fofana has indicated he will stay Leicester City this summer despite strong interest from Chelsea.

Leicester have turned down a new offer from Chelsea for centre-back Fofana, despite the Blues reportedly offering a fee in excess of £70m.

It was the second approach Chelsea have taken, with the opening £63m offer also rejected, but the Blues remain determined to bring him to Stamford Bridge and are ready to try again with a third offer.

It was previously thought Leicester would be ready to accept an offer in the region of £70m but they are desperate to keep their young defender and are now awaiting a third approach.

Fofana deleted all traces of Leicester from his social media profiles this week and is said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, in a new interview, the Frenchman suggested he could stay at Leicester for the 2022-23 season.

“Leicester is family and I felt that from day one,” he told The Telegraph.

“I’ve always felt like a Leicester native. It’s a big club and an institution, but everyone has time for each other and gets along well.

“We are all brothers, sisters and cousins. It’s a big season for me and for Leicester.

“There are already some great strikers in the Premier League and even more for this season after the transfer window.

“It excites me and I’m ready for it. I am prepared.’

Fofana joined Leicester in 2020 for a transfer fee of £36.5m from Ligue 1’s Saint-Etienne and has made 50 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions, helping them win the 2020-21 FA Cup and signing a long-term contract in March until to sign in 2027 .

Leicester have already lost goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to French club Nice this summer, while James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans have all been linked with departures.

Leicester are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer, despite boss Brendan Rodgers calling for a “healthy restructuring” of their squad in February.

Their season begins on Sunday when they host Brentford at King Power Stadium.
