Frank Leboeuf pushed Chelsea are forgoing two transfers despite Romelu Lukaku’s imminent return to Inter Milan.

Much was expected of Lukaku after joining Stamford Bridge for £100million last summer, but the Belgium striker endured a dismal season, scoring just eight Premier League goals.

Lukaku has made no secret of his desire to return to Inter and Chelsea in Serie A and yesterday agreed a loan deal for the 29-year-old.

He joins Inter Milan for one season, which has cost the Italian club €8m (£6.9m).

Ever since it emerged that Lukaku could leave Chelsea, the Premier League giants have been linked with moves for Robert Lewandoswki and Raheem Sterling.

However, former Blues defender Leboeuf believes Thomas Tuchel should prioritize other signings and says Manchester City forward Sterling would not solve Chelsea’s woes.

Chelsea have impressed since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the hot spot of Stamford Bridge – and last year won the Champions League – but the Blues have failed to keep up with domestic rivals Man City and Liverpool last season.

When asked who Chelsea should sign to replace Lukaku, Leboeuf said EPSN: “Nobody. I think that’s not Chelsea’s priority.

“If you only care about the headlines, you’re talking about Lewandowski or Sterling and some other Class A players. But you have to look elsewhere in the team.

“You need central defenders. I want to talk about… [Jules] Kounde, via right-back and a new midfielder. Here you have to search.

“They have been looking for a top scorer for two years, it has not worked. They have talented players who need to settle in and gain confidence.

“But finding a striker is not a priority. I want Chelsea to make smart signings instead of trying to make headlines with a striker because that’s not a priority.

Specifically asked about Sterling who’s there Speaking of a £50million move to west London, Leboeuf added: “When you have Sterling at its best then that’s undoubtedly a plus. But what kind of player Chelsea would get I don’t know.

“In any case, he is a fantastic player and can bring something special. But that won’t solve the problems Chelsea have I think when it comes to scoring goals and giving all the players confidence again.

“What it also won’t solve is the crosses from the two wings of Reece James and [Ben Chilwell].

“It’s going to be difficult when they can’t find anyone who can head the ball because neither Sterling nor Werner, Pulisic or even Mount are capable of turning crosses into anything special. Maybe Havertz can do that, but it’s not enough in the squad.

“The pace of Chelsea’s game could improve – Sterling can improve that. Nothing changes in terms of cleverness in front of goal and he can also miss easy chances. I’m not sure, I think it’s a risk.’

Leboeuf also spoke about Lukaku’s upcoming move to Inter Milan, stressing he was ‘sad’ that the Belgian didn’t succeed on his Chelsea return.

“Tuchel is responsible for signing him, but Lukaku has to take responsibility as well. Everyone is a bit guilty here,” said the Frenchman.

“He didn’t play the way people expected him to. I’m sad for him because I think he’s a great guy and a great player, but it wasn’t a good season, it was a disaster.
