former According to reports, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would rather stay at Barcelona than return to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Chelsea need a striker after losing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner – the Blues are keen to sign Aubameyang this summer – and the Gabonese international is believed to be ready to listen to them if they approach.

Aubameyang has a great relationship with Thomas Tuchel but only joined Barcelona in January following his controversial departure from the Gunners, where his contract was terminated after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta.

The former Arsenal captain enjoyed a reputation-restoring second half in the second half of last season, during which he scored 13 goals in all competitions, but his future at Barcelona is suddenly shrouded in uncertainty.

Barcelona’s perilous financial situation, coupled with the high-profile arrival of Robert Lewandowski, has dramatically changed the picture for Aubameyang, little more than six months after he moved to the Camp Nou.

However, according to new reports from Spain, Aubameyang would like to stay at Barcelona because he feels ‘very comfortable’ at the club and has bonded well with his new teammates.

Sport have reported that Barcelona would instead prefer to sell former Manchester United striker Memphis Depay and that bosses see Xavi Aubameyang as a key player, although Chelsea remain interested.

Aubameyang’s representatives face important talks with Barcelona’s hierarchy and Chelsea will await the outcome of those negotiations before deciding whether or not to go ahead with the plan to sign a player Tuchel knows well from Borussia Dortmund.

At the height of his Arsenal exile last December, Tuchel lavished praise on the 33-year-old, who helped the Gunners win the 2019-20 FA Cup.

Tuchel said: “I can only say the best about Auba as a player and as a person.

“I feel sorry for him that he’s in trouble. This is not where he should be with the kind of quality and positive character he has – and I still believe in that.

“But I’m not involved and I’m not involved in what’s going on at his club now and I want to show my respect for that too [to Arsenal] and not getting involved and not judging what is right and wrong.

“I only have my image and relationship with Auba and that is not affected by that.”
