Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made an offer to buy Valencia, another potential buyer for the Spanish club.

Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale last month but will not receive a dime from the transaction after being sanctioned by the UK government.

The Russian oligarch has also been forced to protect some of his assets, including his £430million yacht Solaris, after also being sanctioned by the EU.

However, Miguel Zorio, a Spanish businessman who is trying to buy Valencia with a €248m (£207.8m) bid, claims the club’s current owner Peter Lim has claimed he also has an offer from received Abramovich.

“Peter Lim tried to sell the club in London for €250m (£209.5m) and he didn’t succeed,” Zorio said.

“Lately he has leaked to international media that he has two offers to buy, mine and that of Chelsea’s Russian oligarch.

“And from here I tell him that he either puts in 50 million euros every year to cover the losses that he is making, or he sells to us. Whether he likes it or not.”

Chelsea are still no closer to the Abramovich-era takeover as the four selected bidders have been given an extension to submit improved bids.

The original deadline for improved bids was Monday, but US merchant bank The Raine Group, which is handling the club’s sale, wants to give bidders “a full and fair opportunity to reasonably finalize the details of their proposals”.

Two parties, Todd Boehly and the Ricketts family, are reportedly set to offer Chelsea fans a “gold share” as part of their bid over the weekend.

Last week, the Ricketts family gave Chelsea supporters an eight-point pledge after fans protested their possible ownership.

As part of their pledge, the Ricketts family have vowed that Chelsea will never join a European Super League, while also pledging investments to continue the success of the men’s and women’s teams.

Meanwhile, Boehly was present at Stamford Bridge this week to follow Chelsea’s defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
