Inter Milan has shied away from a commitment Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan deal after Chelsea demanded a one-off £20million payment.
The Belgian is determined to return to the San Siro after less than 12 months at Stamford Bridge, where he joined for a club-record £97million.
Lukaku fell out with Thomas Tuchel last season when he criticized the German’s tactics and Kai Havertz became the club’s first-choice striker for the remainder of the season.
Chelsea are now ready to sell Lukaku but Inter cannot afford to buy him permanently, especially as the Blues are demanding a full refund of the money they paid last August.
Inter haven’t given up hope of signing Lukaku, instead trying to broker a loan deal with Chelsea, who have shown a history of agreeing to such deals, as has been the case with the likes of Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa.
But the Daily Mail say Inter were surprised when Chelsea demanded a £20million fee to loan Lukaku out for a single season.
Chelsea want to sell Lukaku permanently and would see the £20m as an effective deposit before Inter pay the remaining money in 12 months.
However, Inter would prefer a far lower fee so they could build the finances to sign Lukaku on a permanent basis in 2023.
