Timo Werner returns to RB Leipzig just two years after leaving the Bundesliga club Chelsea after the two clubs agreed on a fee for the striker.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move from Stamford Bridge for most of the summer and even expressed a desire to leave if regular playing time could not be guaranteed.

Juventus had been closely monitoring the Germany international’s situation, but according to various sources including Fabrizio RomanoWerner will leave Chelsea permanently for Leipzig.

Werner made his name at Red Bull partner club, scoring 95 goals and 40 assists in 159 games before moving to west London in 2020 for £47.5million.

He has been dubbed as the player who should finally end Chelsea’s forward problems after previous big-name transfers such as Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain massively flopped, but sadly it was not to be for him and the club.

He failed to repeat his form and while 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games isn’t a terrible tally, only about half of those contributions came in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, the German has played his part in the club’s Champions League and Club World Cup victories, as well as two FA Cup finals and the Carabao Cup final.

However, he was dropped from the Chelsea squad for the season’s opening game, the 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday, with Thomas Tuchel’s favored front line appearing to be Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and new signing Raheem Sterling.

The Blues are looking to raise funds as they continue their spending spree over the summer, having already bought Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina for a combined £168million.

The club remain linked with Leicester defender Wesley Fofana, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and various other forward options.
