Steven Gerrard made his scoreline prediction for the Champions League final after Liverpool and Real Madrid training in Paris.

Premier League giants Liverpool and Spanish champions Real Madrid battle it out for the crowning glory of Europe at the Stade de France on Saturday night.

A win for Liverpool in the French capital would see Jurgen Klopp’s side secure their third trophy of the season after victories in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

The Reds eyed an unprecedented quadruple for most of the season but fell just short in the Premier League as Manchester City clinched the title in dramatic fashion on the final day of play.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are aiming for a record-breaking 14th Champions League and second title of the season after storming to the La Liga title and 13 points clear of El Clasico rivals Barcelona.

The Spanish heavyweights, who beat Liverpool in the 2018 final, have enjoyed a remarkable run in Europe this season, making comebacks in knockout ties against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Liverpool legend and Aston Villa manager Gerrard observed both teams training at the Stade de France on Friday and later offered his prediction for the final.

“You can feel the atmosphere building,” said Gerrard, who won the Champions League in 2005. “I wish everyone at Liverpool the best of luck and I hope they get the result that everyone wants.

“I’m looking forward to the game and the fans are lining up nicely in front of the stadium. Hopefully it will be a fantastic game and I predict a 2-0 win for Liverpool.”

Klopp, meanwhile, says he wants his Liverpool team to be a “really uncomfortable opponent” if they try to deny Real Madrid another Champions League title.

Asked how he intends to approach the game, Klopp said at his pre-match press conference: “So, for example, if I did something surprising for my players now, they might think I was nervous; when I pull a rabbit out of a hat and things like that.

“I think if you always do the right thing, then it’s also the right thing to do in the final. But it has to be at the highest possible level.

“We’ve obviously played some really, really good stuff this season, we’re not surprisingly here or we got a ticket or anything – we deserve it too.

“So it would be cool to be at the top level. If we could do that, then, as I said, we’d be a really difficult opponent. A really uncomfortable opponent. We must be.

“We can talk about what Real Madrid have achieved in the past and this season, how good their players are, we could probably write a book about this team together now. But we are also good and we want to show that.”

On Friday, Klopp also confirmed that Liverpool midfielders Fabinho and Thiago have recovered from their injury woes and are fit to play in Paris.

Real Madrid have no injury worries as Wales striker Gareth Bale is part of the squad that flew to France on Thursday.
