Hawthorn will throw No.7 pick Cam Mackenzie straight into the fire after nominating him for his debut this weekend.

Hawks Football General Manager Rob McCartney said Mackenzie did everything right in his first AFL preseason.

“We’re thrilled that Cam is getting his chance to debut for Hawthorn,” McCartney told the Hawks website.

“In just a few months since being called up, Cam has proven he is a fast learner and has an incredible appetite for hard work.

“He’s clearly a special youngster and hasn’t looked out of place in our midfield mix, showing flashes of what’s to come in our training games.

“The first few games are special moments so we’re very excited for Cam to be making his debut in front of family and friends at the MCG.”
