Calls to end gun violence in Boston after series of shootings – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – Local leaders and residents are calling for change after a series of shootings in Boston earlier this week.

Boston police responded to six shootings in six hours overnight Sunday through Monday. At least seven people were taken to the hospital and one victim went to Boston Medical Center himself.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu told reporters that investigations into each of these incidents are ongoing.

“My heart goes out to all family members who have been affected by unnecessary and unacceptable violence in our city,” Wu said.

People who live near crime scenes share the same frustration.

“It’s always something. I feel like something needs to be done,” said Charlize Burrelle, who lives near Ashmont T station. “I live here, it’s crazy.”

Some locals said they wanted the city to do more to stop gun violence and help people who believe gun violence is the only solution.

“I feel like people need help. People are suffering,” said a man who lives in Cambridge and commutes regularly from Ashmont. “I would like to see that … the city is investing something to really show that they want to prevent people from getting into situations where they use violence.”

“Guns are too easy to acquire in other states, and too many of those guns come into Massachusetts and end up in the hands of people too willing to use them,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement on Tuesday Monday morning. “The Supreme Court’s recent decision could make this illegal flow of guns even worse. I know I work with all law enforcement partners to reduce gun violence, but efforts must involve all of us, not just police and prosecutors.”
