California: Mom falls to her death from Disneyland parking garage

A mother died after falling from a Disneyland parking garage in Southern California.

Police officers responded to the Mickey and Friends parking garage around 6:50 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports that someone had “jumped or fallen” from it, according to CNN.

Arriving officers found an adult woman on the ground and provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived at the scene. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She was identified as Marney Schoenfeld, 46, of Scottsdale, Ariz., a spokesman for the Orange County Coroner’s Office told People.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Schoenfeld was a guest at the Anaheim theme park.

Schönfeld’s husband said her death was “agonizing”.

“She was a loving mother to her daughter Sydney,” Randy Schoenfeld told the San Jose Mercury News. “She was a caring wife to me. She was a talented hairstylist for 23 years and her clients loved her.”

An investigation into Schoenfeld’s death is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Anaheim Police Department.

It’s not the first death at the parking garage, which is one of the largest in the US with a capacity of 10,000 vehicles. The seven-story building opened in 2000 and three men died from falls from 2010 to 2016.

In December, a man in his 50s fell fatally from the structure. Cops said it was likely he killed himself, KABC reported. He was identified as Chris Christensen, a principal at Newland Elementary School in Huntington Beach.

Schoenfeld died on the same day as four people were injured when a decorative plastic helicopter hanging from the ceiling crashed into a pool at DreamWorks water park in New Jersey. One of the victims was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The ages and identities of the victims were not immediately released.
