Business remains ‘virtually untouched’ amid threat from omicron

BuzzIts business remains “virtually unaffected” despite growing concern around Variant of covid omicron, CEO of the dating app, Whitney Wolfe Herd, told CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Tuesday.

Wolfe Herd said in an interview on “Mad Money,” addresses two broad investment themes that have emerged during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Demand doesn’t change as these variations emerge. Demand doesn’t change with different constraints. People need love. People need connection,” she added. “That’s not going away, regardless of the changing landscape of this pandemic, so our business remains largely unaffected in this new wave.”

Wolfe Herd said Bumble users rely on the dating app’s features in different ways depending on the public health situation around them.

“We have opportunities on both sides of the coin,” she said.

For example, if a user lives in an area where social activities like eating out are limited, Wolfe Herd says that’s where Bumble’s “Night In” quiz game comes in, allowing people to suitable on virtual connection applications.

The CEO and founder said a similar motivation can be found for another feature Bumble launched during the pandemic: Video calls.

“While you may not be able to run down the street to your local coffee shop, you can still look forward to a day of video on our product,” says Wolfe Herd. “The landscape changes, yes, but we have the features and leverage to pull as these markets get into more trouble when it comes to getting people out the door.”
