Bukayo Saka on late penalty as Arsenal beat Chelsea: ‘If I were him I’d be furious’

Bukayo Saka won a late, controversial penalty and then scored from the point Arsenal beat Chelsea on Wednesday night and the striker insists it was rightly called a foul.
The Gunners defeated the Blues 4-2 at Stamford Bridge and Saka’s penalty confirmed a surprising three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
It was an unusual moment as Saka appeared to be dragged to the ground by Cesar Azpilicueta while from another angle it appeared the Englishman was holding the Spaniard’s arm.
Saka insists he was pinned down and had to go downstairs to prove to the referee he was fouled, although he admits Azpilicueta will inevitably be furious at the situation.
“No, I’m trying to get into the box and he’s holding me for about five seconds,” Saka told Sky Sports.
“I have to go down. Of course he will be mad at me. Of course, if I were him, I would be furious, but that’s the way it is.
“I think it was a penalty and the referee didn’t overturn it, so it was a penalty.”
The penalty decision sparked a debate in the Sky Sports studio with Jamie Redknapp believing it was a penalty and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink disagreeing.
“I think penalties,” said Redknapp. “I think he’s putting himself in the wrong position, Azpilicueta. He doesn’t look at the ball, he grabs it.
“He grabbed him, grabbed him, he’s all over him. It’s not an obvious mistake by the referee. I think that’s a penalty.’
Hasselbaink said: “Not for me. Saka knows what he’s doing and cleverly makes the boy happy. He has to do everything to win this match.
“But he holds his arm and then he goes down.”
