Buckingham Palace has released a picture of King Charles at work

LONDON – King Charles III. was pictured for the first time taking up his new duties at Buckingham Palace.

Pictured is the monarch looking into his official red box, which contains British Government and Commonwealth documents

As a mark of royal continuity, the picture was taken in front of a photograph of his late parents Elizabeth and Philip, which the couple had presented to King George VI in 1951 – the year before Elizabeth became queen.

During her own reign, Queen Elizabeth II was also regularly pictured with her official red box, which every monarch receives from her private secretary.

The picture was taken in Buckingham Palace’s Eighteenth Century Room three days after Elizabeth’s death.
