Buc-ee is about to expand its Caldwell County location

LULING, Texas (KXAN) – Texas travel center chain Buc-ee’s appears poised to expand in a county southeast of Austin.

The Caldwell County Commissioners Court on April 12 approved a 381 agreement with Buc-ee’s. The agreement would include the company staying in Caldwell County and building a larger store. District Judge Hoppy Haden mentioned that the agreement included a rebate but didn’t go into detail.

The Comptroller’s Office says a 381 agreement “allows counties to provide incentives that encourage developers to build in their jurisdictions.” Incentives include loans and grants of public funds and tax rebates.

Buc-ee’s is expanding throughout the South with new stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The company is currently building the world’s largest grocery store near the Great Smoky Mountains in Sevierville, Tennessee. The store will be 74,000 square feet, larger than the New Braunfels store, which currently holds the title of largest in the world.

Although not an actual business, West Texas also has its own “shop”. A tiny Buc-ee popped up as an art installation near Marathon, similar to displays for Prada and Target. Rep. Brooks Landgraf took some pictures of the exhibit and posted them on his Facebook page. Buc-ee is about to expand its Caldwell County location
