Bruins’ McAvoy clears COVID-19 log and is back on the lineup – Boston News, Weather, Sports

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has approved the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol and is in the lineup for Tuesday night’s playoff game against the Carolina Hurricanes, a surprise reversal after coach Bruce Cassidy had said he would miss Game 5 the day before.

McAvoy was a late scratch for Sunday’s fourth game and was expected to be out along with fellow defender Hampus Lindholm. But McAvoy traveled here this afternoon and was seen entering the PNC Arenathen joined his team for a warm-up when the Bruins tweeted that McAvoy had deleted the log.

McAvoy has two assists on the streak with key roles in the Bruins’ power play and penalty kill units.

Lindholm has not played since being equalized in the Game 2 loss after a shattering shoulder-to-chest by Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov. Cassidy said Lindholm did not travel to North Carolina for Game 5.

Both teams are unbeaten on home ice in a series with 2:2.
