BOSTON (AP) — Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak each scored in a shootout to give the Boston Bruins a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
DeBrusk also had two goals and an assist on regulation, and Linus Ullmark stopped 23 shots for Boston to improve his record to 17-1. The Bruins are 15-0-1 at TD Garden, including an NHL-record 14 straight wins, to open a season at home that was suspended last week.
Casey Cizikas, Josh Bailey and Noah Dobson each scored a goal for the Islanders, and Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves before penalties.
After Pastrnak smacked Varlamov under the crossbar, Ullmark dropped and stopped Bailey’s attempt to finish it.
After a 2-1 trip down the West Coast, the Bruins had jumped to a 2-0 lead when DeBrusk scored his two goals 19 seconds apart in the opening period before the Islanders leveled.
DeBrusk also set up Derek Forbort’s first goal from a man down when he quickly moved the puck up the right wing and made a nice drop pass to Pavel Zacha that centered it on an attacking Forbort. The veteran defender fired off a rising wrist shot that slammed Varlamov into the top right corner and gave Boston a 3-2 lead late in the second.
But New York equalized again early in the third when Cizikas spun around the net and pinned the puck away from Ullmark’s body.
Boston center David Krejci missed his second straight game with a lower body injury. “If it was the playoffs he would play, but we just make sure we’re careful,” coach Jim Montgomery said after skating in the morning.
Islanders: Play the second game of a five-game streak with the Arizona Coyotes on Friday.
Bruins: Continue their five games Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
