Bruce Campbell explains the meaning of his Doctor Strange 2 character

Where Sam Raimi goes, his “long lost brother” Bruce Campbell will surely follow, so we always knew he would evil Dead The icon would appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Thanks to its memorable walk-on parts in the original Spiderman trilogy, Campbell has built an almost Stan Lee-like side career making Marvel cameos. But the actor has a tongue-in-cheek explanation for why his Doctor Strange 2 Character might be his most important yet.

Campbell shows up during Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America Chavez’s (Xochitl Gomez) trip to Earth-838 as a mouthed street vendor who runs a stand called The Pizza Poppa and verbally bashes the wizard – until Strange spells him out, further himself in hitting the air face. The film’s final post-credits scene then returns to Campbell’s character once the spell finally wears off. In a fourth-wall-breaking moment, he looks into the camera and yells, “It’s finally over!”

Taking to Twitter, a fan asked Campbell how the pizza delivery boy was performing with his Spidey cameos, and the actor provided a perfect pun with an answer. “Quite simply: The Pizza Poppa put Dr. Strange an end.”

In advance Multiverse of Madness, there were various theories as to who might play Campbell, and many hoped he might show up as an oddball variant. However, it is believed that he was originally cast as Balder the Brave, a member of the Illuminati before this was changed in re-shoots in The Pizza Poppa. However, neither Raimi nor Campbell himself have confirmed this yet.

Some also wondered if he could appear as Mysterio following his cancellation Spiderman 4 Cameo, something Campbell seems to have ruled out as a possibility in the future. It’s a shame, but at least – as the man says – he has to literally put an end to it Doctor Strange.
