Brockton warns public of black bear sightings – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BROCKTON, MASS. (WHDH) – Brockton officials advised residents to keep an eye out for a black bear that was spotted in the area early Thursday morning.

Through a Facebook post, city officials warned the public that the bear had been sighted in the North Pearl Street and Healey Terrance area around 4:30 a.m. and advised residents to take necessary precautions.

The city provided several Mass Wildlife resources to help the public. Residents are advised to remove birdhouses, secure dumpsters, and retrieve all pets before dark.

Black bears are usually shy around humans, according to Mass Wildlife, and advise those who encounter a bear to make loud noises, such as clapping or talking, while slowly backing away. “DO NOT run,” Mass Wildlife says specifically.
