From parties to pageants, you’ll find everything you can expect during the long weekend.

THURSDAY 2 JUNE

The celebrations start with a bang on Thursday 2nd June when the Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Color) takes place.

The event begins at 10:00 am, complete with a display of military pageantry on Horse Guards Parade.

Once the parade is over, the royal family will go onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace, where they will wave to the crowd and watch the pass.

But after “careful consideration” the appearance will be limited to “those members of the royal family who are currently taking on official public duties on behalf of the Queen”.

That means Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and their children, who have confirmed they’ll be attending the weekend’s celebrations, won’t make it.

On the same day, over 1500 towns, villages and cities across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and British Overseas Territories will come together to light a beacon to celebrate the anniversary.

Bonfires are also lit in each of the Commonwealth country capitals, with the main bonfire being lit in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

FRIDAY 3 JUNE

There will be a thanksgiving service for the Queen’s reign at 11.30am on Friday at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Great Paul, the country’s largest church bell, will be rung for the service following its restoration in 2021.

It has been rung eight times since – although this will be the first royal occasion since the big makeover.

A reception will be held in the Guildhall after the service.

SATURDAY 4 JUNE

On Saturday, the BBC is hosting a huge ‘Platinum Party at the Palace’ – a live concert bringing together some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars.

Presenters Kirsty Young and Roman Kemp will direct live coverage of the event, which will be broadcast live on the BBC.

A total of 22,000 people are expected, including 10,000 allocated in a public vote and 5,000 tickets for key workers.

The full line-up of acts will be announced by the BBC in the coming weeks.

Epsom Downs Racecourse will also host the 243rd edition of the Derby.

SUNDAY 5 JUNE

A grand anniversary luncheon will then be held across the country on June 5, over 60,000 people have signed up to host their own grand luncheons.

Events range from world record attempts for the longest street party to backyard barbecues.

Thebigjubileelunch.com is still taking orders for free packs to start street parties or to find out where a public event might be held near you.

Other celebrations include the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which brings together performers, dancers, musicians, military personnel, essential workers and volunteers to tell the story of the Queen’s 70-year reign in a festival of creativity.
