Brits Chris Parry and Andrew Bagshaw were killed trying to carry out a “humanitarian evacuation” in Ukraine.

The couple had traveled to Soledar in the east of the country, to volunteer to help.

Parry’s family released a statement this evening through the Foreign Office.

The statement from Rob, Christine and Katy Parry read: “It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Chrissy was killed along with his colleague Andrew Bagshaw while attempting a humanitarian evacuation from Soledar in eastern Ukraine.

“His selfless determination to help the old, young and disadvantaged there made us and his large family very proud.

“We never thought we’d say goodbye to Chris when he had such a fulfilling life ahead of him. He was a caring son, an amazing brother, a best friend to so many and a loving partner to Olga.

“Chris was a confident, outgoing and adventurous young man who was loyal to everyone he knew.

“He lived and worked as a software developer, but Cornwall has always been his home. He loved rock climbing, biking, running and skydiving and wanted to travel the world.
