A British tourist has been arrested on suspicion of raping his son’s boyfriend in a hotel in Mallorca in the middle of the night.

The woman, also British and believed to be around 20, was allegedly attacked after falling asleep in her boyfriend’s room in Magaluf, whose inner door led to his father’s room.

Investigators were told the elderly man surprised the woman after entering the room while his son was celebrating.

He reportedly packed his bags and rushed to try to leave the island just hours after the alleged sexual assault, but was arrested by police at Palma airport.

Officers stopped him at the gate when he tried to escape.

It is understood he allegedly ended his holiday early by buying a plane ticket home days before he was due to leave.

According to local reports, the alleged rape victim fled the unnamed hotel and raised the alarm at a Guardia Civil office near the party area of Punta Ballena in Magaluf.

The Spanish Civil Guard has not yet commented on the incident and subsequent arrest, which reportedly took place on Tuesday.

The name of the detained man, believed to be around 45 years old, was not released.

He has not yet been officially charged with any crime, as is common in Spain, where formal charges are only laid shortly before the trial.

Court officials were asked for comment.
