Pictures show the moment a plane was forced to dodge a hot air balloon that got in its way as it prepared to land.
The pilot of the plane encountered the unexpected object on its final approach to Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport in Brazil.
They were able to avoid a collision with the unmanned balloon and safely land up to 300 passengers on board.
Passengers and plane spotters recorded the incident and showed how close the two became on Sunday.
Speaking to local outlets, one person on Flight 777-300 said that “the balloon caught the attention of people on board.”
Rafael Freitas, who took photos from the airport, added that “the Boeing 777 came in a little misaligned with the runway to avoid the balloon.”
“Once it passed the balloon, it turned to correct its orientation,” he said.
The balloon is believed to have been used as part of a local festival.
In a statement sent to Doha News, a Qatar Airways spokesman said he was “aware of an incident involving an unmanned balloon prior to landing in São Paulo on Sunday, July 3.”
They added: “The flight landed as usual and safety margins were maintained at all times.
“The captain submitted a report after the flight, which is now being investigated by the Brazilian authorities.”
