Brazen criminals are targeting West Park businesses for their catalysts

WEST PARK, Florida. – Two South Florida businesses were recently attacked by crooks, but the criminals weren’t after cash.

Surveillance cameras from the weekend capture the couple lifting a jack as one of the men begins to cut away a catalytic converter.

The act was then repeated several times.

Greg Jackson owns a neighboring business: Tycoon Party Rental. He was also hit, the thieves stole the crucial car part from his entire fleet.

“I keep getting hit, every time I replace it, I get it and I keep getting hit,” Jackson said. “Hopefully we can get a justice man and get our business going again because right now we can’t do as many deliveries as we want because we don’t have the amount of delivery trucks that we had because they took all the converters there.” Out.”

The getaway car used by the thieves can be seen in the same footage, but the damage has been left behind.

The auto part that controls vehicle emissions is made from precious metals like platinum and rhodium, which sell for hundreds of dollars in junkyards.

Sometimes it’s more than the price of gold.

Replacing critical auto parts can cost thousands of dollars on some vehicles, which can be quite a hit with small business owners.

“It costs me money, these converters aren’t cheap, so I can only fix one van or one truck at a time,” Jackson said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
