BOSTON (WHDH) — A 33-year-old man is dead after a daylight shooting in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston.
Police were called to the Norwell and Park Street area around noon Monday, where the victim was found along with several bullet casings.
Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots at the time before first responders arrived and took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to 7NEWS sources.
“It’s just crazy, (I) just saw the ambulances and police coming, just awful,” one woman told 7NEWS. “Senseless violence just has to stop.”
Homicide detectives could be seen collecting evidence Monday afternoon as the intersection remained closed at 4pm
Police also searched for surveillance footage in the area.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden later arrived at the scene of the shooting and told reporters that a community response was needed as gun violence continued in the city.
“We have to be concerned about what’s going on here on our streets with these daylight shootings, the volume and the use of guns that’s going on right now,” Hayden said. “It just affects us too much. We need a collective response to that.”
Members of the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team Network distributed leaflets to residents in the area, reminding them that help and counselors are available for those in need.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
