Boston leadership celebrates 80 years since deadly Cocoanut Grove nightclub fire – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — Boston leaders will gather Monday to celebrate 80 years since the deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history.
In 1942, nearly 500 people died when a rapidly spreading fire at the Cocoanut Grove Club in Boston’s Bay Village neighborhood.
When the fire broke out, many doors inside the building were locked, making it difficult for people to escape.
The tragedy paved the way for massive reform of fire codes and safety standards in the United States.
