BOSTON (WHDH) — Boston Harborfest, one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in the country, is scheduled to begin Friday noon at Downtown Crossing.
This comes as preparations continue for this year’s July 4th Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, which will see the stage set up on the Esplanade for the first time since 2019.
Longtime conductor Keith Lockhart said the Boston Pops team is more excited than ever as they return for the first time since the pandemic began.
“It’s hard to believe that we’re thinking of such an annual event, a tradition, such an iconic moment in Boston that it’s been three years since we had the opportunity to say hello to our audience out there,” Lockhart said.
In addition to the concert’s classic annual favorites, such as the 1812 Overture with fireworks and cannons, ten-time Grammy winner Chaka Khan will also perform at the show. The audience will also be treated to a special performance of the Ukrainian national anthem.
“As we celebrate our own independence, it’s important to remember those who are fighting for their independence as we speak,” Lockhart said.
“There are hundreds of thousands, even millions, of people nationally and locally on WHDH who will be watching us together,” he said. “I just hope we add to their sense of American spirit on July 4th.”
