Bonnie Raitt appeared on The Ellen Show for a rousing performance of their latest song, “Livin’ for the Ones.” The musician joined her band to present the thoughtful tune, which reflects on embracing life for those who are no longer with us.
The song appears on Raitt’s new album, Just as…, which was released via Redwing on April 22nd. The record features four new songs by Raitt, as well as a handful of covers she was dying to record – including Toots and the Maytals’ “Love So Strong”, NRBQ’s Al Anderson’s “Something’s Got a Hold of My Heart”, and Bros. Landreth’s ” Made Up Mind”.
Raitt recorded Just as… last summer in Sausalito, California. The musician produced the record herself and worked with mixing engineer Ryan Freeland. For the songs she got a number of musicians: bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson, drummer Ricky Fataar, keyboardist and backing vocalist Glenn Patscha and guitarist Kenny Greenberg.
“On this record, I wanted to stretch out,” Raitt noted in a statement. “I always want to find songs that excite me, and what’s different this time is that I’ve tried some styles and themes that I haven’t touched before.”
Raitt returns to the streets this month in support of Just as…, and she has dates scheduled through November. Raitt will be joined by Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples and Marc Cohn on select dates.
