Boland, Sutherland blast WA in Sheffield Shield at the highest level

Victoria has an early grip on the crucial Sheffield Shield finals match against Western Australia in Perth.

Western Australia’s much-vaunted batting side slipped to 7-112 at tea on day one, with all of their recognized batters back in the pavilion.

Victoria likely needs a win to skip Queensland and secure a place in the Shield final against Western Australia at the same venue next week.

Interim captain Will Sutherland and returning Test bowler Scott Boland did most of the damage Tuesday.

Boland returned figures of 3-22, including the wicket of Shields leading scorer Cameron Bancroft, while Sutherland won 3-33.

Runaway leaders Western Australia found runs difficult to make as only Bancroft (24), Hilton Cartwright (27) and Ashton Turner (27) hit double digits.
