PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Alec Bohm scored the 1,000 on Tuesday night. home run in World Series history, and the Philadelphia Phillies quickly went to work to start the next thousand.

Bryce Harper, Bohm and Brandon Marsh played off Houston starter Lance McCullers Jr. early in Game 3 of the 118th World Series. Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins hit back-to-back drives to end McCullers in the fifth inning to make it 7-0.

The five home runs equaled a World Series record set three times earlier – by the Murderers’ Row New York Yankees in 1928, when Babe Ruth hit three and also tied Lou Gehrig, by the Bash Brothers-led Oakland A’s in 1989 in the first game after the bay earthquakes in the area and through the shield stealing scandal-ridden Astros in 2017.

McCullers became the first pitcher in postseason history to be tagged for five home runs in a game.

Harper started the barrage with a two-run drive in the first inning, sending Citizens Bank Park into a frenzy.

Bohm led with a liner over the left field wall in the second for the milestone homer. Two batters later, Marsh hit the #1,001 home run, a high fly that a young fan in the front row of right field seats dropped back onto field.

“I feel great about it. I was just really excited that the ball was coming my way, so I just got out of my seat and tried to catch it,” said 10-year-old Ty Kuhner of Wilmington, Delaware, who was with his parents and older at the game was Sister Madison.

Schwarber, who led the National League with 46 home runs this season, hit his fourth homer of the postseason, a two-run Schwarbomb into the midfield bushes. Hoskins followed with a left drive that went after McCullers.

Cy Young himself gave up the World Series’ first homer, an inside-the-parker, against Pittsburgh’s Jimmy Sebring against Boston in the first game of the World Series in 1903.

Mickey Mantle holds the record for most World Series home runs at 18. Ruth follows at 15.
