Body found after fire extinguished at trailer in Macoupin County

MT. OLIVE, Illinois — Firefighters responding to an RV fire in rural Macoupin County, Illinois, made a gruesome discovery after putting out the blaze.

First responders in Macoupin County were alerted to a fire on Washer Road just after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to Mt. Olive Fire Protection District Fire Chief Donnie A. Nowell.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found an RV on fire.

Firefighters from Mt. Olive and the Unit 7 Fire Protection District coordinated their efforts to control and eventually extinguish the blaze.

The forces then searched the premises and found a body in the apartment.

The victim has not been identified and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
