Bob Odenkirk Honored as 2023 Hasty Pudding Man of the Year – Boston News, Weather, Sports
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) – Two-time Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk was in Cambridge on Thursday to accept his Man of the Year award from Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatrical organization.
Odenkirk rose to popularity after his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. He took the stage at Harvard for the traditional roast and challenges as part of Hasty Pudding’s traditional Man of the Year celebrations.
The Hasty Pudding Man and Woman of the Year awards are presented annually to performers “who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment,” according to a Hasty Pudding press release this week.
Jennifer Coolidge has been voted this year’s Woman of the Year, with celebrations scheduled for Saturday February 4th.
Odenkirk arrived early Thursday for a tour of Harvard Yard and Hasty Pudding’s historic home, Farkas Hall. Odenkirk held a private seminar for members of Hasty Pudding Theatricals prior to the evening program.
Odenkirk said the honor was even sweeter after suffering a near-fatal heart attack on the set of Better Call Saul last year.
“It would have been difficult to even agree to be a part of it before,” Odenkirk said.
He said the heart attack made him realize “we have limited time and that sometimes it’s good to step back and realize that you’ve done a lot of things.”
As for what’s next, Odenkirk said he hopes to keep making people laugh.
