Biscayne Gardens residents are recovering from tropical storm surges

BISCAYNE GARDENS, Florida. – The cleanup at Rajiv Bhardwaj’s home in Biscayne Gardens will take place on Saturday afternoon after the tropical storm hit overnight.

Bhardwaj says he woke up to a mess in his home, which was filled with water in his laundry and bedroom.

Bhardwaj has just relocated from New Jersey and this was his first experience of this type of Florida weather.

“I just moved here and this is my first experience in a tropical storm,” he said.

A professional cleaning team is currently at Bhardwaj’s home checking on what was soaked during the storm.

Streets throughout the neighborhood are flooded after hours of rain where front yards look like lakes.

Nancy Smith says she has lived here for more than two decades and, unlike Bhardwaj, the interior of her home has been spared, but the standing water has not made it easy to get around.

“Sometimes when we have heavy rain, we get puddles, but not like this,” Smith said.

Neighbors said these floods usually occur during storms like this, but the draining of the water has been slower than usual.
