A major fire has broken out at a hotel in Brighton.

People have urged people to avoid the area surrounding the Royal Albion as the flames spread.

Strong winds have hampered efforts to contain the fire.

Dramatic Videos Posted by BhaHarvey on Twitter features bright orange flames shooting through the night sky.

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas tweeted: “My thoughts go out to all who have been affected.” Very sad scenes from the Royal Albion Hotel.

“A big thank you to all the rescue workers who are on site. Take care everyone.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue have confirmed there are no injuries.

In an update posted at 9:30 a.m., the service said, “Crews continue to use the high-capacity pump and three Ariel ladder platforms.”

“There are no reports of injuries yet.”

“We continue to strongly advise locals to avoid the area and close windows and doors.”

Another update is expected at 10:30 p.m.

Residents have been urged to avoid the area and close windows and doors while firefighters fight the fire.

In a statement, Sussex Police said on Twitter: “We continue to support the fire brigade at the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton.”

“Nearby residents and businesses are being asked to close their windows and doors as the windy weather spreads smoke around the area.”

“The Old Steine ​​and part of the Kings Road remain closed.”

When the fire broke out, large crowds gathered on the surrounding streets, some even sunning themselves on the beach and watching the spectacle.

According to local media, parts of the hotel roof began to collapse.
